We specialize in minimally invasive procedures and techniques which have provided advances in the effectiveness, comfort and downtime related to treatment of various urologic conditions.
Since 2008, I have been using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. As it had not gained FDA approval till the fall of 2015, it became necessary to travel out of the United States with my patients if they requested this therapy. HIFU boasts near zero impotence and incontinence rates, as well as, almost no downtime. Those patients with smaller size prostates and low volume disease make the best HIFU candidates.
Cryoablation is another "ablative technique" I routinely use for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. It was first on the scene and is more geared to those not sexually active or patients trying to avoid the pitfalls of hormonal manipulation.
Needleless vasectomy takes the discomfort out of this common sterilization procedure. Rather than injecting local anesthetic into the scrotal skin using a hypodermic needle, the lidocaine is simply sprayed through the skin with an aerosol applicator! Male sterilization has taken a huge step forward both psychologically and clinically with this breakthrough.
For those patients suffering from urinary urgency, frequency, incontinence, fecal incontinence and neurologic urinary retention, sacral nerve modulation has been a Godsend. When drugs haven't been effective in the treatment of these life changing medical problems, InterStim Therapy is probably the solution. A simple test of the inhibitory nerve is all that is necessary to determine if this will help.
Office based prostate ultrasound with biopsies has been a psychological deterrent to the diagnosis prostate cancer due to the frightening experience it generally is. We at Urology of Mount Dora prefer to use the same anesthesia for these procedures as is used during a colonoscopy, allowing the patient to sleep through the entire process!
Coaptite bulking is used to tighten a patient's "on & off valve" to mitigate mild to moderate stress incontinence. This quick and easy process is very effective in cutting down the number of incontinence pads a patient might use and frequently eliminates them completely.
I've been performing Cooled Thermotherapy for the treatment of prostatic enlargement since 1998. This 40 minute office procedure is extremely effective in eliminating symptoms such as urinary urgency, frequency, nighttime voiding, slow flow, feeling of incomplete emptying and urinary retention from BPH.
